Hand carved out of a single block of wood then hollowed out and carved this wooden fish Mokugyo Buddist drum is used in meditation. The fish is one of the eight auspiscious symbols in Buddism.
I found this durm at an auction from the estate of Dr. H.J. Crocker who brought it back to Canada in 1911. He spent time in Shanghai as the coach of the Chinese Team (now Pan Am games) It was stored for years so in very good condition with one chip on the handle.
