Brass Box Arts and Crafts Antique New Munich
This antique art nouveau brass box with hinged lid and raised feet is remarkable. Covered in floral and plants forms, with scrolling, furling tendrils and stylized, curving lines. A sturdy box made of solid brass and wood lined. Marked with NMK (Neues Münchner Kunstgewerbe), New Munich Arts and Crafts founded in 1919 by Alois Wörle, a gold and silversmith from Munich, Germany.
This box lid has a few small dings on the top edge where the hinge meets the top which is hard to spot in the photograph. I believe this box was designed as a cigarette or tobacco box, but makes a good trinket or jewelry box. Over the years it has acquired a soft patina. The wood is intact no dents but a small space between the wood and the brass as photographed. For the age it is in very good condition. Made in Germany.
