I found these beautifully crafted shoes at an auction from the estate of Dr. H.J. Crocker who brought them back to Canada in 1911. He spent time in Shanghai as the coach of the Chinese Team (now Pan Am games) His grandmother was very involved in helping women in Shanghai, trying to stop the practice of foot-binding.
This pair of embroidered silk shoes are in remarkable condition.There are stored in a trunk for a good portion of the time afterwards so are in remarkable condition with out wear.
